Product Overview
The BLACK+DECKER Smart Portable Air Conditioner is a 14,000 BTU ASHRAE unit that converts to 10,200 BTU SACC for realistic portable cooling. It combines air conditioning, fan and dehumidifier functions in a white, portable cabinet with a top mounted control panel and LED display.
This review checks the feature set, portability, smart controls and installation details against the listing, without relying on customer ratings because no rating data is available for this product.
Score Breakdown
This verdict is based on the manufacturer's stated specifications, the current Amazon listing and its product images, the confirmed materials and design, real buyer ratings, and our research into the product category. Scores are consistent editorial judgments, not laboratory measurements, and we did not receive a paid sample.
Key Features
Cooling, fan and dehumidifier modes in one portable unit with top mounted controls and LED display.
Connects to the mobile app on iOS or Google Play and works with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free adjustments.
The full function remote can act as a thermostat so the unit cools based on the remote's location, not just the unit.
Rated for rooms up to 700 sq ft using 10,200 BTU SACC, which is a modern efficiency-based cooling measurement.
Includes an easy-to-install window kit and a large vented airflow outlet for cool air distribution.
Design and Build Quality
The unit measures 16.5 x 14.06 x 27.09 inches and has a white finish with a top mounted control panel and LED display. The included window kit and large vented airflow outlet are meant to simplify setup and direct cool air where it is needed.
The Follow Me remote adds a practical touch by measuring temperature at the remote rather than at the unit, which can help avoid hot or cold spots. The appliance is portable, so it can be moved between rooms as long as the window kit can be reinstalled.
Performance in Everyday Use
The 14,000 BTU ASHRAE rating translates to 10,200 BTU SACC, which is the more realistic standard for portable ACs. This sizing is intended for rooms up to 700 sq ft, so it should be able to maintain a comfortable temperature in many bedrooms, living rooms or small offices. The dehumidifier and fan modes add flexibility for muggy or mild days.
The main limitation is that the listing does not confirm noise levels, energy efficiency ratings or real-world cooling speed. Without those details, it is hard to know how it will perform in a quiet bedroom or how much it will cost to run over a full summer.
